New Attractions, Experiences at Disney’s
Hollywood Studios
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- In the Walt Disney World theme park famous for all
things Hollywood, it's curtain up on the launch of new attractions, new looks,
new breakthrough experiences...
...and a brand-new name.
Disney-MGM Studios will be renamed Disney's Hollywood
Studios, effective January 2008, announced Meg Crofton, president
of Walt Disney World Resort.
"The new name reflects how the park has grown
from representing the golden age of movies to a celebration of the
new entertainment that today's Hollywood has to offer -- in music,
television, movies and theater," she said.
Framed by the park's supporting cast of classic Hollywood
architecture are shows and attractions straight from contemporary
Hollywood, such as Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, "Lights,
Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show" and many more. Disney's
Hollywood Studios is also the place to meet favorite character stars
of today including Lightning McQueen and Mater from Disney-Pixar's "Cars," Power
Rangers and Little Einsteins.
With exciting coming attractions and experiences, the
best and brightest of Hollywood is about to emerge for park guests,
Crofton said.
"As Disney continues to grow and invest in our
family entertainment business, we constantly explore new ways to
deliver high-quality, immersive experiences for our guests," she
added. "As a park all about entertainment, Disney's Hollywood
Studios will deliver like never before. Now we can say that Hollywood
is literally our middle name."

Toy Story Mania!
Guests get sporty in a new, interactive "Toy
Story" competition inspired by Disney-Pixar's "Toy Story" films
and hosted by characters like they've never before experienced. Past
a queuing area featuring a giant Mr. Potato Head, guests grab 3-D
glasses, board fanciful ride vehicles and zip into a world of exciting
midway-style games hosted by many of their favorite "Toy Story" characters
including Woody, Hamm and Rex. Once inside "Andy's Toy Box," the
competition heats up. Who can rack up the most points? Using spring-action
shooters, guests launch darts at balloons, rings at aliens, eggs
at whimsical barnyard targets. Toy Story Mania! takes the interactive
ride-game experience to infinity -- and beyond. (summer 2008)

Disney-Pixar Film Pals fill the theme park streets. This immersive
rolling spectacle will feature favorite characters from "The
Incredibles," "Toy Story 2," "Monsters, Inc." and "A
Bug's Life." (spring 2008, replaces "Disney Stars and Motor

Disney Parks to create attraction based on the television and pop
culture phenomenon
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Walt Disney Parks and Resorts will create
an "American Idol" attraction that will bring the television
and pop culture phenomenon to life at Walt Disney World Resort in
Florida, according to Jay Rasulo, chairman of Disney Parks and Resorts;
Simon Fuller, CEO of 19 Entertainment; and Keith Hindle, executive
vice president of FremantleMedia Licensing.
The attraction, slated to debut in late 2008, will be located at
Disney's Hollywood Studios theme park and will follow the model of
the high-energy show. Disney guests will be able to experience the
challenge of auditioning, the rush of performing on stage in competition,
or the thrill of judging the performances in a live interactive entertainment
setting with all the glitz and glamour of the distinctive "American
Idol" set.
That experience will include an audition process, open to all eligible
to register, where guests perform “live” in front of
a Disney’s Hollywood Studios producer for the chance to be
cast in a theme park show. If shown to have that star quality during
the screening process and after backstage preparation -- working
with a vocal coach, hair and make-up -- it’s lights up and
showtime for the lucky guest in front of a “live” audience
and a panel of judges.
Guest performers with the highest votes will compete in an end-of-day
Grand Finale show at Walt Disney World, and the winner of the Grand
Finale show will receive a guaranteed reservation for a future regional
stadium audition -- to ensure no waiting in long lines -- for the "American
Idol" TV show. But when it comes down to the television show
auditions, everyone is treated equal.
"Millions of people have imagined themselves standing on the
'American Idol' stage," said Rasulo. "We're excited that
we will be bringing this dream to life every day at Walt Disney World."
Added Fuller, "One of the most remarkable elements about 'American
Idol' is that for a brief moment each week, we can provide TV viewers
the opportunity to imagine life as America's next superstar. Disney's
new attraction perfectly captures what we at 'American Idol' feel
is the heart and soul of this brand, real people getting a shot to
make their dream a reality."
"This partnership," noted Hindle, "brings the number
one show on television, watched in over 100 countries, to the number
one theme park destination in the world. It's a perfect combination
and opportunity to offer everyone a taste of the 'American Idol'
experience."
The coming "American Idol" attraction will reflect the
best and brightest of the TV show, giving starry-eyed park guests
a chance to become a star on the attraction's stage. It joins an
all-star lineup at Disney's Hollywood Studios, a celebration of today's
Hollywood in movies, television, music and theater. Among the new
adventures debuting in 2008 is the just-opened "Playhouse Disney-Live
on Stage!" plus coming attractions "Block Party Bash," an
interactive and moving Disney-Pixar spectacle filling the theme park
streets; and Toy Story Mania! immersing guests in a 3-D interactive
ride-through video game starring popular Disney-Pixar "Toy Story" characters.

Relaunched Spaceship Earth Features Innovative Changes and 'Interactive'
Refinements
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Spaceship
Earth, the iconic centerpiece of Epcot, has relaunched with changes
and refinements installed during more than seven months of construction
and detailing in 2007 and early 2008.
Presented by Siemens, the relaunched Spaceship Earth looks on the
outside like it did when Epcot opened a quarter century ago. But
on the inside, Spaceship Earth has undergone changes that will treat
guests to an innovative "interactive" attraction with many
new scenes, new costumes and set decorations, new lighting and special
effects, a new musical score and narration, and a totally re-themed
interactive post-show.
On a trip through time inside the Spaceship Earth attraction, guests
discover how each generation of mankind has invented the future for
the next generation, and how the spirit of innovation has moved people
from caves to the cosmos.
During the journey, new scenes depict: a family in the late 1960s
viewing the moon landing on television; a massive, two-story computer
room of the late 1960s with reel-to-reel-computers; a garage of the
early 1970s where the "personal computer" is born; and
a "tech tunnel" in which guests become part of a digital
data stream.
Even scenes that guests have experienced since 1982 have been touched
by the project. "Practically every Audio-Animatronics figure
in Spaceship Earth has been updated in one way or another," said
Show Producer Bob Zalk of Walt Disney Imagineering. "To make
the figures more realistic, they've received a makeover of everything
from their hair to their costumes to their movements."
Meanwhile, the makeover of the narration and music benefited from
some "star power":
The new narration is delivered by English actress Dame Judi Dench,
who earned an Oscar as best supporting actress in 1999 for her role
in the motion picture "Shakespeare in Love." While Dench
delivers the ride vehicle narration in English, guests can also choose
five other languages for their vehicle, a Disney "first" --
French, German, Japanese, Portuguese and Spanish.
The new musical score was composed by Bruce Broughton, who has won
a record 10 Emmy Awards and has been nominated for an Oscar and a
Grammy during a career writing in every medium -- from theatrical
releases and TV feature films to the concert stage and computer games.
A 62-piece orchestra and 24-voice choir brings his latest composition
to life.
As the ride-through adventure nears its finish, interactive touch-screens
in the ride vehicles light up with a series of questions, soliciting
guests' preferences concerning things such as where they'd like to
live and work in the future. Then guests are treated to a personalized
view of themselves in their idyllic future.
When guests disembark the time travel experience, they are invited
to visit "Project Tomorrow: Inventing the World of Tomorrow" presented
by Siemens, where interactive exhibits bring to life the ideas and
technologies Siemens is developing to help make the world a better
place for the future. The space is filled with fun, interactive games
and displays that showcase innovative technologies. Here, guests
step into the world of tomorrow and glimpse the future of medicine,
transportation and responsible energy management across the globe.
Project Tomorrow includes:
Body Builder, a 3-D interactive game that enables users to assemble
a digital human body, simulating the Siemens technology developed
to perform remote surgeries.
Super Driver, a driving simulation video game that showcases motor
vehicle accident avoidance systems developed by Siemens.
Innervision, a view into the future of medical diagnostics in the
home.
Power City, a game that demonstrates how to manage power in a growing
city.
Epcot is the Walt Disney World discovery park, where guests are immersed
in a celebration of both technological accomplishments and international
cultural achievements. The 305-acre theme park encompasses two unique
worlds -- Future World and World Showcase -- with attractions, shows,
entertainment, dining, shopping and architectural wonders. Epcot
is part of the 25,000-acre Walt Disney World Resort, near Orlando,
Fla. For more information, guests may call 407/824-4321 or visit
